The Ruins
Aguadilla, PR
What is it?
The ruins of the Punta Borinquen lighthouse are found near Aguadilla's Punta Borinquen golf course. These stunning ruins are the remnants of a lighthouse built in the 18th century by the Spanish, which was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1918. It is officially known as the Borinquen Point Lighthouse. The Ruins are easy to reach. They are a few minutes from the airport, and near popular beaches.

The ruins are a great place to take photos. When we visited, there was an engagement photo shoot going on. It is a very popular location for weddings.
The beaches there are rocky, but beautiful. It’s a great place to find seashells.

Old Naval Buildings
Next to the Ruins are an old Naval facility, that has several abandoned buildings covered in graffiti. It’s a fun place to visit, as well.

If You Go:
The roads are mostly dirt. They are ok, up to the Ruins. If you keep going on the road past the Ruins, you will reach Wilderness, a somewhat famous surf beach. We did not go there. The road is known to be rough and maybe only reachable by 4 wheel drive vehicles.
The Ruins area is popular with dirt bikers and other off-road vehicles. It can get crowded and noisy, especially on weekends. Lots of families go there to picnic and to ride.
